Complete Guide to Calculating Exterior Wall Scaffolding Area

1. Scaffolding Calculation Rules
(1) When calculating interior and exterior wall scaffolding, the area occupied by openings such as doors, windows, and voids shall not be deducted.
(2) For buildings with varying heights, calculations shall be performed separately for each height.
(3) If the general contractor’s scope of work does not include exterior wall decoration, or if the exterior wall decoration cannot utilize the main construction scaffolding, the main exterior scaffolding or decorative exterior scaffolding items may be applied separately.

2. Exterior Scaffolding
(1) The height of exterior wall scaffolding for buildings shall be measured from the designed outdoor ground level to the eave (or the top of the parapet wall). The quantity shall be calculated in square meters by multiplying the length of the outer edge of the exterior wall (including wall piers protruding more than 240mm from the wall surface, calculated based on the dimensions shown in the drawings and incorporated into the exterior wall length) by the height.
(2) For masonry heights below 15m, single-row scaffolding shall be used. For heights exceeding 15m, or for heights less than 15m where the area of exterior wall doors, windows, and decoration exceeds 60% of the exterior wall surface area (or where the exterior wall is cast-in-place concrete or lightweight block walls), double-row scaffolding shall be used. For building heights exceeding 30m, steel cantilevered platform double-row scaffolding may be used based on project conditions.
(3) For independent columns (cast-in-place concrete frame columns), the calculation shall be based on the perimeter of the column’s outer structure as shown in the drawings plus 3.6m, multiplied by the designed column height in square meters, applying the single-row exterior scaffolding item. For cast-in-place concrete beams and walls, the calculation shall be based on the height from the designed outdoor ground level or the upper surface of the floor slab to the bottom of the floor slab, multiplied by the net length of the beam or wall in square meters, applying the double-row exterior scaffolding item.
(4) For steel platform cantilevered steel tube scaffolding, the calculation shall be based on the length of the outer edge of the exterior wall multiplied by the designed height in square meters. The quota for the platform cantilever width has been comprehensively determined, and the height set in the quota item shall be applied during use.
