Cantilever Scaffolding: Its Untapped Advantages

With the wide application of cantilever scaffolding, many users have not fully recognized its advantages. Nevertheless, mastering its proper operation procedures remains critical.

Cantilever scaffolding offers multiple benefits: locally available materials, easy assembly and disassembly, high safety and reliability, cost efficiency, making it widely used in high-rise construction. Its internal management reflects construction standards and corporate culture, so it should be an important part of civilized construction management. Meanwhile, new-type cantilever beams solve the problems of non-reusability and high cost of traditional steel beams. As a modern external scaffold system, it consists of an embedded cantilever support frame and an upper double-row steel pipe scaffold.

Cantilever scaffolding still has many untapped advantages:

1、It replaces the traditional steel wire rope unloading technology. The upper part is connected with φ20 round steel and fastened with turnbuckles, providing fixation, load relief and reduced bending moment. Turnbuckles and round steel are reusable, safer and more economical than wire ropes.
As the cantilever beam does not penetrate the building interior, no reserved holes or wall patching are needed, avoiding external wall leakage, accelerating interior finishing and shortening the construction period. The top surface is nearly flush with the floor slab, protecting old formwork and easing cleaning.

2、It changes the traditional floor-anchored steel beam method. High-strength bolts connect the steel beam to the floor slab, creating an external erection platform. Compared with traditional designs, steel consumption is reduced, cantilever length is shortened by more than half, and cost can be saved by over 56%.

In summary, cantilever scaffolding has strong advantages and is increasingly popular in practice. However, many of its benefits are still underrated due to insufficient industry awareness.
