Five Common Types of Scaffolding Used in Industrial Projects

In construction engineering, scaffolding is one of the indispensable pieces of equipment. It provides a working platform and supporting structure for workers, making the project construction safer and smoother. However, when using scaffolding, it is necessary to select the appropriate type to ensure construction safety and quality. The following introduces five common types of scaffolding, along with their advantages, disadvantages, and technical key points.
1. Steel Pipe and Coupler Scaffolding
This is a traditional type of scaffolding that uses steel pipes and couplers to form a supporting structure. Its advantages include strong load-bearing capacity, good pressure resistance, and high durability. However, its disadvantages are also obvious: the assembly and disassembly of the scaffolding are relatively cumbersome. Workers need to use a large number of couplers, which easily leads to problems such as missing couplers and incorrect coupling.
2. Cup-Lock Scaffolding
This type of scaffolding adopts a cup-lock connection, and its supporting structure is relatively stable. But its scope of application is limited—it is only suitable for high-rise building construction and large-span construction. In addition, the assembly and disassembly of cup-lock scaffolding are relatively complex, requiring workers to have certain skills and experience.
3. Ringlock Scaffolding
This is a new type of scaffolding that uses a ringlock connection. It features uniform formation, a simple structure, strong load-bearing capacity, good pressure resistance, and high stability, thus becoming the preferred scaffolding type for most projects. Moreover, the ringlock scaffolding is easy and quick to assemble and disassemble, and problems such as missing couplers and incorrect coupling rarely occur.
4. Wheel-Lock Scaffolding
This type of scaffolding is a simplified version of the ringlock scaffolding. It adopts a wheel-lock connection and has no parts such as bolts and nuts, making assembly and disassembly more convenient and faster. However, wheel-lock scaffolding has higher technical requirements—it is necessary to ensure the accuracy of connection angles and spacing; otherwise, its stability and load-bearing capacity may be affected.
5. Frame Scaffolding (Door-Type Scaffolding)
This type of scaffolding is a support frame composed of door-type structures. Compared with other types of scaffolding, it has a simple structure and is easy to use. However, frame scaffolding cannot be used as a load-bearing support and can only provide a working platform for workers.
In general, the selection of a suitable scaffolding type should be determined based on the specific requirements of the construction project and local specifications. During the use process, attention should also be paid to the technical key points of scaffolding assembly, use, and disassembly to ensure construction safety and quality.
