Scaffolding Safety Issues That Cannot Be Ignored During Construction

On construction sites, scaffolding is an indispensable temporary structure during the construction process. It provides workers with a working platform and ensures project progress and quality. Second, mixing wooden or bamboo scaffolding with metal scaffolding is strictly prohibited. Additionally, single-row scaffolding must not be used when the overall height exceeds 3 meters. This is because wooden/bamboo and metal scaffolding differ significantly in load-bearing capacity and stability. Mixed use can compromise the overall stability of the structure, leading to safety hazards. Similarly, single-row scaffolding exceeding 3 meters in height lacks sufficient stability and is therefore banned.

Furthermore, the foundation of scaffolding must be level, solid, and equipped with drainage measures. The structure must be supported on base plates (supports) or full-length scaffold boards. This is because the stability of scaffolding is closely tied to the levelness, firmness, and drainage of its foundation. An uneven or weak foundation can cause tilting or deformation, while poor drainage may lead to moisture accumulation, further undermining stability.

Additionally, the working surface of scaffolding must be fully covered with scaffold boards, with no more than 20 cm of clearance from the wall. Gaps, overhanging boards, or unstable boards are strictly prohibited. The outer edge of the working surface should be equipped with guardrails and a 10 cm-high toe board. These measures ensure worker safety—excessive gaps, overhanging boards, or unstable surfaces increase the risk of slips and falls, while guardrails and toe boards prevent workers from falling off the edges.

Lastly, the outer side of the scaffolding must be enclosed with fine-mesh safety netting, securely fastened and tightly sealed to the structure. This prevents tools, debris, or other objects from falling and injuring people or damaging equipment below. The netting also helps reduce dust, improving the overall construction environment.
